This weekend we decided to go to Brighton for a night to visit Simon and Ellen. What an excellent plan, as Brighton is pretty awesome. From the beginning:
Saturday we were s'posed to meet Guy and Toddy at Victoria Station at 12, but us being us, were late. Not going into too much detail, but there was a plastic bag involved, and it wasn't filled with shopping. Anyway, we finally meet up and get on the train, and somehow manage to get the 2hr 15min train. Bummer. There is one that takes about 40 minute apparently. Ah well, for the crapness I was feeling it was actually a nice train ride.
Simon met us at the train station there and we walked straight down to the sea. One thing that's really cool about Brighton, the station is at the end if the main road, you walk straight down and you're at the sea. Easy. Awesome shopping off to the left, down all these little lanes, it was like being in a HP movie, oh yeah. So we get to the sea, and the Brighton Pier is to the left, with the old burnt out one to the right. I convince the lads to go right, as we won't be able to see the burnt one at later on, and there's a large number of birds doing this mental synchronised flying all around the top. Like hundreds of birds, it looks wicked, I dunno how they manage to avoid flying into each other there are that many.
Anywho, on to the sparkling lights of the real pier, and we walk around watching peeps on the rides - which I still will not go on, again a nod to Vinpearl Land in Vietnam - and take some sweet pics of the rides at night. We sit down for a beer and I'm thinking it's tea time since it's pitch black already, but it is only 5pm. 5pm and darkness. Geez. how I envy y'all in NZ right about now. We go meet Ellen when she finishes work then go get some tasty as Vietnamese for tea. I get Pho Tai Lan, which is an enormous bowl on soup that I can hardly make a dint in, and a Beer Lao. Yep, they sold Beer Lao. awsome. We head back to Simon and Ellens for a few drinks, and somehow I end up with Baileys, random. But YUM! I forgot how Yum it was. The others all go out for mad party times till 6am, while I be granny and stay home. To be fair, they didn't leave till 1am, so maybe I'm a young granny.
Then today we all get woken up by Guy and Todd ringing the doorbell at 10.11am and all ignore it for a few rings, but finally let them in. Ugh. Get out of town. Everyone is feeling less than great, but we all drag our butts to Simon's work for a meanfeed and much needed liquid. Again, YUM. Too full. It's crazy warm and sunny which is awesome, and I get to use my friggin rad as heck new camera, the photos of which I will share once I get around to scanning. Gosh it's the best yet. Since I had to leave most of my camera collection in NZ, it's time to start building my collection here. But anyways. We walk around some sweet opshops, geez I need to find places like them in London, spot about a million things I'd like to buy, but I settle for a watch, finally. An hour later it stopped working. Never mind it was only 4 quid.
Then it's time to do some beach sitting, and the swarm of birds are back in force, and then off to the train home. Huh. Bummer, time to go already? I'll def go back, hopefully many a time, and the idea of living down there isn't so bad either, I'd like to be near the coast...But super funtimez, thanks to Ellen and Simon for putting us up, very handy indeed.
We are off to Marseilles next weekend which is exciting, and I've booked a 7 day trip to Barcelona/Valencia/Alicante over Christmas since Sam gets to go to NZ without me. Boo. But Spain! Fun! Xmas in Spain. Cool, hope all is well in Kiwiland, and the temperature is rising nicely for yas! X
