Berlin with a grin

bit blurry but ah well!

Berlin. Yet another amazing city I want to go back to a million times. This travelling bizo, it makes me just want more more more. And more of the same cities, when there are so many other great ones out there to go see. Oh woe is me and my fantastic life.

So, I was flying out of Luton airport this time, the furthest away and most annoying to get to airport in London. Well technically out of London. I had to work the morning, and it worked out that I had a sleepover at work, and then school was starting late so I had to go directly from school drop off to the bus station. Way to make a gal sweat and stress!!! (even though I did get there with an hour and a half spare) but hey! I am NOT missing any more flights. I flew with EasyJet, a bit of a welcome change from RyanAir, which I think I might do a bit more. Yes, RyanAir stewardess's, I know you work for a budget airline, your uniforms are terrible ill fitting polyester shades of sick lemon yellow and this probably isn't the airline you were going for when you thought hey I'll be an air hostess, but take some pride in your work man! Most unorganised bunch I've ever flown with. Now that sounds ridiculous doesn't it. Shut up Alana who cares hahaha, I'm not even in Berlin with the story-telling yet!!!

Crazy turbulence! The worst I've ever had! Here's me, trying to take a nap and all of a sudden we are all sideways and up and down and shakeyshakeyshake. I think it's the first time I've been semi like aah, usually I'm pretty good (accepting the fact that there's nothing I can do so there's no point stressing) but this time. Lots of that weightless feeling.

Landed at Berlins Schönefeld Airport and after a rather confusing 15 mintues trying to find the trains (my comfortable sign posted life in London showing through when I'm walking around with my mouth open) I get into town to meet Guy, Sophie and Toddy. There is a thunder storm forecast for the next day, but it decided to come this evening instead, which is fine by me. Lightening, thunder, pouring pouring rain. A bit different from the last holiday I went on hah! We stayed in a pretty sweet hostel tho, with  big windows for watching it all go on outside. Lucky the troops had thought ahead and bought some super yum dips and bread to pig out on inside, mmmm oh yes, it was a pig fest. A nap later and we all run down the road for an Asian mix dinner, and were sitting outside under a massive umbrella while its still torrential. Oh Berlin, you had me at guten tag.

In the morning, Toddy heads out to the free walking tour and me Sophie and Guy go get us some bikes! G&S had been to Berlin before, so I pretty much just follow them round, looking at all the cool stuff Berlin is showing off. The wall though. Not as wally as I was thinking. I dunno what I had in mind....ah well, heaps of sweet art painted on it. Heaps of graffiti around too, as I'm sure anyone has heard about Berlin before, and really cool, really large bits too, covering walls of buildings and everything. We stopped at a hilllaaaarious beach bar (they must have to bring in so much sand) for a drink and a sit down by the river, and watch Guy try and get on all the things lying around. Like a broken hammock, a broken treadmill, a rather small tree swing. Yep. Then Sophie and me get sidetracked shopping, and plan to meet Guy back at the hostel about 2, when Sam should be arriving. Yussss!!! We find a gem of a second hand store, and nab some sweet finds. I'm looking at you kaleidoscope shirt dress travelling home with Sophie.

Sams here!! Yaaay! We head down to Schiesischer Busch, a park, and get some ciders and pretzel sticks and sit in the shade on the grass next to the canal. Oh goodie. Annie and Josh (who you may remember we also randomly bumped into while in Barcelona) came down to meet us too, so it was really nice to chill out for a while and enjoy the surroundings. There were two groups of people playing music, people doing tight-rope walking (which I did get up and have a go at, great fun) and a lot of people doing what we were doing. It was a well good afternoon.

We didn't get up to much that evening, just went and got some delicious dinner, me and Sophie played an intense game of snap, people got lost and found and spilled kebabs everywhere, sat down by the wall and had a few beers by the river again. Pretty awesome.
