Brugge
| my room was actually called holy blood hahaha |
Yeah so the majority of them are all over exposed and whitey but ah. A while back I went to Brugge (Bruges) for a three day working weekend with the family I work for. They were going for a wedding, which I got to go to also. We went on the Eurotunnel to get there, which was cool, I'd not been on it before. Dunno quite what I was expecting there, but weirrrrrd. Just drive on in to a huge train, they shut it up and off you go. Bonjour France in 35 minutes. Not too bad really. We drove straight to Belgium and in to Bruges to check in to the hotel, which was this really cute one on the canal called...the >Hotel de Orangerie< which was super cute and fancy but I managed to get bitten like 6 times by a mosquito. Me and the children were in our own family room upstairs from ma n pa, which was pretty cute. We had a movies and pizza picnic on my bed after the wedding. Who enjoyed it more? I'm not sure, but probably me.
Straight off the bat we went for a walk and out for lunch, man is Bruges preeeeettty! Pretty! My GOSH! And the stores. I didn't know it was like a lace and tapestry haven. Every second store was full of handmade lace and all things you can make from that lace. But nice lace...I almost want to say...tatting...I don't know, I don't wanna sound toooo ancient. The knitting! One day I'll go back and buy up large. After some amazing food, I took the children on a canal boat tour, which was pretty sweet. Nice way to see the centre, lots of cool buildings and weird stories about where they used to hang people or something. Mmmmhmm. Out for dinner with the family, and some de-he-liiiiicious steaks and desserts (I tried figs for the first time, not what I expected) then back to the hotel room.
On the Saturday we went to the wedding in the morning, which was really nice. The children I look after looked sooooooooooooo cute, one was flower girl, and they had these incredibly cute dresses and wee flower crowns. Very nice. And the wee boy had white trousers and a white linen coat, which his dad thought was hilarious and like he should be in Miami in the 80's. Awesome. Afterwards we went to the reception, in some amazing huge Belgium estate, it was lovely and sunny and the first food table we came across was a dessert one. Yuss. And then a waffle station. Heart shaped waffles of course. The rest of that day was either spent eating or following the kiddies around this masssssive house, or running around in this big field area outside. Oh and trying to tell little old ladies I don't speak French or Dutch, which was hilarious as they all managed to reply with something like, we don't speak English, so there were a lot of weirdly silent moments. Ah well!
Like I said up there somewhere, after the wedding I took the kiddies out for a walk and to get some pizzas and spag bol, then home for the worlds quickest baths so we could have a picnic on my bed while we watched the movie A Monster in Paris. Good times. Sunday was brunch at the newly weds, which was bordering some woodland area the kids enjoyed the hell out of. Mixing up muddy leaf soup for my dinner? Yes please. Bowls of Jelly Belly jelly beans everywhere? I'll have this bowl to meeeeeeeself please. It's the small things right.
Then we drove home. Almost forgot our passports, as the hotel forgot to give them back, so some poor lady had to jump on her bike and bike it over to us where we were. It just so happened to be the day Bruges had a car ban. Right. Oh! And! Did I mention my boss is awesome in this post? No? Well she is, I randomly commented on this one tapestry I saw in a shop window, which was a copy of Gustav Klimts "The Kiss" cos I love it and it's the background on my phone blah blah, and when we were leaving she hands me a present which is it, I was like OOOOOOOOOOMAGNHEEEEEEEEEERDO yay thanks. Well worth going just for that. So yeah. Going to Iceland next week, CANT BLOODY WAIT!
