First morning waking up to to a view of Hekla (99% on that)

Wow so where the hell to begin. Iceland. Sheesh way to be the most amazing place ever. Ok, so Claire got here on the Saturday, with the specific reason to meet us and all go to Iceland for the week. Very exciting stuff. We were flying WOW air, which I wasn't even sure was a real airline until we got to the airport, and turns out they are actually hilarious to fly with. Things like the safety briefing, said with Icelandic accent, included little bits like "und in case of emergency, leetle golden cupcake shaped devices will magically fall from the compart-ment above your heads and if you pull it over your heads eet will fill with sweet smelling air to make you feel happy and not scared at all". It was awesome, and hilarious. Anyway.

From the first out the window view of the island, yet again, my face was like whoaaaaaaaaaaaa. I'm sure you're beginning to notice a trend here, where every new place suddenly becomes the new best place on earth, but this one, I think, takes all the cake in every awesome department there is. It was like we were landing on a new planet, I dunno, or flying into Jurassic Park maybe? The size of the glaciers, mountains, volcanoes all over the show. Wow, just blimmin wow.

We hired a car from a company called Sadcars. Wouldn't go there again, I mean the car we got was fine blah blah, but we did get a flat tyre, the rest of the tyres did look like they were about to explode, it was a dinted, ripped up, scratched and old. I dunno, it did the trick and was cheap...next time I go - there will be many nexts, I hope - I'd rather pay the little bit more for one of them 'trusted car rental companies' the give you the car at the airport, not picky you up an hour after you arrive and drive you 15 mins down the road, to get in a bomb with no gas. Whatevs, it was actually ok. Just one of them things after hiring cars in other countries and then being liiike uuuhhhm really? Moving on. After a really hilarious 10 minutes of my and Claire trying to figure out the petrol pump (you pay before hand and it wasn't in english at all, fair enough) we were off! The first three nights we were spending down the south coast, where we had rented >Fagrahlíð Guesthouse<. The drive down there was a one of them mouth open the whole way, through lava fields and through country cliffs and farmland and mountains in the distance (volcanoes too woop) and I was genuinely in awe, the whole way. The. Whole. Way. Even during dusk, the sky looks amazing, and surreal. It was unlike any other sky I think I've seen, there were so many colours involved, it was mad. MAD! None of the photos do the way it was any justice at all. Siriusly. Anyway, we got to the house (we had rented the 5 bedroom house on the property) and no one was in the other building so we had the whole property to ourselves. Which was completely ah-mazing. Serious, anyone, going to Iceland and looking for a place? Stay there. Warm tube and all hahaha. Inside joke on the outside, oooo.

Two funny/stupid things happened. Once we got there, we couldn't open the security lock to get the key out, it was freeeeezing by the way and just as I'd figured out how to call the lady, Sam got it opened. KTHANXBAIII. Then after hangin out inside in the super warmth we all decided to go get some food etc, and all walked out and left the key inside. Cue the rage inside. Spare key is over two hours away. Sorted it out in the end, haha. Back home, about to get into the spa outside...what's that...is that...is it...AURORRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Yea-oh. There was a very chilly moment where I was in my togs and robe (haha yes, they came with the house) but was too excited about the aurora so just grabbed the tripod and ran out into the field to take photos. It was so great. The hot tub after was extra warm after freezing myself in the field.

This is going to get lengthy. Be prepared parentals, family, friends and random peeps, this will end up being a saga. A photographic and words filled, many part dumping of my trip. Oh, peace peace peace.
