lil ma gettin out in the world!

So, MUM!!! Mum came over for her big holiday a few weeks ago :) I'd been looking forward to it since she booked in January!!!! It was so good to see you ma! I miss miss missssss you now tho, sadface.

I got up at the early old time of 5am to drive out to Heathrow to pick her up, and in the quickest time anyone has ever got through border security/baggage claim/customs, she was out! Fast forward from that day (Monday) to Thursday, and we were up again at the crack of dawn to get the Euro Star to Paris. And what a way to go, so easy, and I really like travelling by train. I did nap BUT it was so much easier than fluffing around with the airports. And we got a bit of scenery.

Straight off the bat when we got to Paris mums taking photos of the police or guards or whatever with their machine guns hahah. There was also straight away one of them annoying ladies come up with the whole 'do you speak english, sign this petition and give me money' thing, very annoying. Last time I was in Paris I managed to get scammed into giving one of them like €2 oooo. So we were like lady, get outta here. We made our way to the metro and I was even a handy helper and gave my map to some American couple who couldn't find one. They were trying to memorize the stops and lines and all this, and I had a spare map (prepared much?) so good karma must be coming my way next time I get lost.

We were staying at the Ideal Hotel Design, a bit of a last minute 'woops I forgot to book accommodation for Paris' deal, but it was in a really handy location, the metro stop was literally out side the hotel door, and they were really nice and helpful. And there was a little cafe three doors down, which was so yum to eat at and the lady was awesome and friendly too.

So we started off after we had dropped of our bags by heading up to Notre Dame and strolling around there, and then down to the Louvre for the rest of the afternoon. It was so cool to be able to show mum around these places I'd been before, and make the travelling a bit easier by semi knowing my way around a bit. It actually started to rain while we were on our way to the Louvre and we camped outside for a bit and managed to bump into some other NZers. I also got to see a few corners of the gallery I'd missed the first time when I went with Sam. Not surprising, it isssss massive in there. After spending the afternoon ooing and ahhhing we went back to the hotel, picked up tons of snacks and watched movies. It was a good end to a massive first day. I realise now this is going to be split up a bit, as I'm super lazy, but I'll get there ma ;)

So, ta-ta for now...
