Norwegian excellence

Skipping forward to present day awesomeness, we went to Norway for a 5 day holiday with Simon and Ellen.

I'll be brief, because it will just be paragraph after paragraph of things like, 'it's so stunning', 'beautiful vistas', 'so similar to NZ' etc etc etc...

We hired a camper van/motorhome and it was the best decision ever. Very easy to drive, no certain towns/check ins to race towards for the night, go the kitchen and all your stuff with you all the time. It was the best. In Norway you're allowed to camp anywhere that public for free, so we could choose last minute where to go sleepies.

We drove from Oslo airport to the Flam area, went through the Laedral Tunnel which is 24.5km long, did a train trip and bike ride, and a morning boat trip on Naeroyfjord, went to a few lookouts, waterfalls, Voss area and a few more waterfalls. We tried to camp near  Bergen, on one of their public parks but google maps was a bit off and roads weren't roads or were blocked off and private. Fair enough! We went through tunnels that had roundabouts in them (goodness), past beautiful fjords and lakes and so many good waterfalls. Up to a snowy national park which was amazing, quiet, still so warm, and we did the classic arm thing you do to make the big trucks toot. Oh to be a 30 year old child. The road we took back to the airport is such a scenic highway, >Norwegian National Rd 7<. I'd recommend anyone going to get amongst that one.

The light didn't go until around 11-11.30,  and not proper dark until 1amish, so easy to stay up late around the fire, which, despite my initial hesitance of possibly being screamed at by angry Norwegians, was really great.

It was so nice to have the kitchen with us, to wake up, make scrambled eggs and sit fjordside with some of the best fresh bread any supermarket has ever had...and a cuppa O'boy haha

Another classic we thoroughly revisited while on the road was chip sandwiches, except pimped out with hummus and some Norwegian sauces every evening before dinner. Brilliant.

Anyway, it really is a exceptionally beautiful place. I coulda stayed there weeks and weeks if it wasn't quite so expensive.
