HEY! Long time no post! Australia here I am. After a long long time flying and waiting at the airports, some freakin tasty Lamb pot roast somewhere over the middle east, 6 movies, a million albums, wines, sleeping with my mouth open, hilarious flight attendants that make jokes over the intercom, a stop off in Bangkok, flying over wildfire at night time, being delayed in Sydney due to the bad weather Melbourne had been having, and finally arriving in Brisbane, Claire is waiting for me by the bag drop. FREAKIN HI!!! So much excitement inside me at that finally I don't have to travel for a few days and it's time to get a beer with Claire.
We head to Claires sisters house and even though I'm sure I smell and look like I've been awake for 4 years, I still manage to get my manners out and not fall asleep on the couch. I meet Miriam and her fiance Karl and later on we talk about the photos and oo that's very exciting also, only 2 days away. BEAUTIFUL dress. Holy hell. You'll see, I've got to get round to putting a wee wedding post on here, but obviously I've been neglecting this since I got here. Time to turn that around a tad.
Anyway, we go back out to the airport the day I got there to get JM, after having a nice relaxing afternoon watching Jumangi and drinking beers at Claires other sister Katies house. Good old Jumangi. Early night as I'm tired as hell, then the next day we go out to the Vinyard where the wedding is going to be the next day. It's an awesome day, cept the wind, nice n hot. It ends up being a bit of a Claire and JM pose-fest hahaha, as the photos above probably show you. When we finish scoping the place we drive down to a place called Coolangatta, which is south of Brisbane on the Gold Coast. Swim time! Me and Claire are very excited to be able to go swimming, as NZ is too cold still for Claire, and I haven't been swimming in the sea wince we left Thailand. Meanwhile JM goes and get his long locks cut off, and Katie takes some sweet jumping photos of me and Claire. The water is warm like an oldish bath, and walking around in it is like being tackled every half metre, it's that rough with a strong current. Good times tho. Oh yes fun times indeed.
Tibetan BYO for tea. YUM. I find Koppaberg, the cider that made me like cider in Sweden, and a nice ole bottle of wine later and we're watching Dawn of the Dead. Mmmm-mmm. Wedding Day! Im going to fill in Weddind Day with it's own post eventually, so we'll skip over it now.
Then it's Sunday, and Abbeys coming to pick me up at 2ish, Claire and JM are leaving at 4ish, and that's the end of me seeing my Wellington friends. BOOOO! I did have a raucously good time with you guys. Oh dear it was fun. We laze around until its time to go our separate ways, and oh no! Wheres Abbey, she was gunna be here a while ago. Phone's ringing and I'm assuming it's her so I answer with a hearty YOOOOOOOOOOO and turns out it's her BF Mike, who I've not met before. I correct myself to a 'hello' and then find out poor old A-dawg has a flat GPS, left her wallet in the Gold Coast, and has no credit to ring me. OH NO! So I ring her and sort out that I'll taxi to where she is, it's not far and yay we are finally on the road back to Surfers. Now I haven't seen Abbey in about 2 years, and it's always awesome with friends who you can just slot right back in with like no time has passed. We start out drinking CC's on the balcony, which over looks the beach, then go out for a few, then end up back on the balcony drinking CC's till the wee hours.
I'm woken in the morning with a, 'Wheres my banaaanaaaaa?' down the hallway, which makes for a laughy awakening. My face feels like ive been drinking for too long so we agree to have a lazy morning and go out later...shitty TV is a great friend. After lying around for a few hours I'm being taken on a drive to Burleigh, where we have lunch - a friggin yum banana berry smoothy and a smoked salmon salad - then go for a walk down a track by the beach. I discover there's such things as bush turkeys - wtf haha that turkey is in a tree - and do some fossicking on the beach. Then we go back and feck round till tea time, where we go for Thai in China town across the road. Me and Abbey barely dint our amazing soups and the bowl is as big as my head, but it was yum all the same. We watch Scott Pilgrim then go to bed early, as I was really onto it and booked an 8.20am flight! YAY! Up at 5am! NOPE, Chuck Testa. No, I mean, accidentally get up at 4am, wake up Abbey, give her BF the a shit-I-slept-in-through work scare, then go to bed fully clothed for another hour. Woops.
And I'll leave it there for now, the Getting To Melbourne Debacle can wait, tho I will throw up a shakey fist and say Darn you Barclays, Darn you to Heckkkk!
