Ireland!

A few weeks ago Sam and I finally got our butts to Ireland! Just for a long weekend, but boy was it beautiful. We flew in to Shannon airport early on the Friday morning, and hired a car to drive up to Galway. We took the scenic route up there, via the Cliffs of Moher. What. A. Sight. And not just because I was reliving Harry Potter moments (Horcrux hunting anyone?). They were such an epic sight. It was a cloudy kind of day, and I think it was perfect for the cliffs. They just looked so massive and wild and doomy with the cloudy backdrop. Wonderful stuff. Then we were heading the scenic route to our B&B, along more super scenic coastal roads, past crazy stone formations of this place called Burren, where it looks like lava has spilled out and dried up (I've not idea what it actually is btw) but was definitely worth a stop off. We wandered around these super spongy grass/rock fields, and looking around, the hills and cliffs reminded me very much of Iceland funnily enough. We had a running joke that, as soon as you saw the speed limit go from 50kph to 80kph sign, that the roads were about to shrink, become so bendy and unkempt that you had to go about 30. Unless you're Sam, and then you try go 80 and have Alana screaming in your ear for 20 minutes hahaha. Irish roads aye, what are they like.

Our little B&B we chose was in a little town called Oughterard, the >Corrib Wave Guest House< which was a lovely little place, right on the side of the Lough Corrib. We checked in, dropped our things, had a wee nap then right back to the sight seeing. We drove to the Sky Road to and did a coastal circuit, again which was very beautiful, and reminded us of NZ a bit too. On the drive home we stopped in at the The Boat Inn on the main street for dinner. I had this Connemara leg of lamb stew type thing, which was ahhhmazing, then we had some toffee thing for dessert. Very delicious meal. Driving back to the B&B was hazardous tho, no street lights, again with the 80kph and the a random turnoff out of nowhere. But, we made it obviously, much to my sweaty palm death grip on the wheels help. To be continued...

Love this blog Lan. The shots of the cliffs are amazing! Ireland does look like a lovely place. I can see how it might remind you or Iceland...rugged and raw...

Barcelona, my darling

that is a cube of ice in there. you'll know what i'm on about shortly grr, arg colourful Tarragona ooh ahh  a few locals lurking around And then there are about 3 or 4 films worth of photos between this day and the last, which is why the photo log skips 4 days... If you remember I came to Tarragona one other time, >AT CHRISTMAS< , when I was driving down the coast on my Christmas holidays.  Well this time we managed to find the amphitheatre, which juts so happened to be about 4 minutes from where we were staying for the night. Bristol bike trip

Lunchtime stop! we camped right in front of that seat hahaha sammy on the bridge break time packed up soph on the way up the hill, finally some tarseal! how dusty you get sitting on a bike museum trip   time to finish off the wine and teach guy how to stretch helmet geezers art at bristol uni got sammy too guy looking stoaked and the boatses again OKOKOKOK right so. I'm aware I've skipped out the whole of my NZ trip, and I *eventually* will get round to that...I just wanna get these lil trips out while they're fresh in my mind...fresh-ish anyway. So a few weeks back at Easter, Sam, Guy, Soph and I decided we would do a wee bike mission form Reading to Bristol, along the Avon Canal. Sam and I as always left everything up the the last minute and got a bargain pair of pannier bags - £7.50 a set!
