For the last day we went on the ferry to Gozo, which is another of the Islands in Maltas archipelago. After driving round a pretty much unmarked ferry terminal, no buildings or office or anything, we found the line and got on. Bluest waters ever. and heaps of jellys, I'm glad it wasn't like that at the beaches, there were tons floating round the ship. Got me some Maltesers (hah) and a glass of milk. The lady didn't bat an eyelid, and there was even a button on the till for it, that's how cool Malta is. We neared Gozo after 10 minutes, and off to the right was Comino. Comino is famous for its 'Blue Lagoon', and after seeing the edge of this lagoon, and how brightly amazingly blue it was, I was kinda sad we didn't get to go swim there. There were a bunch of yachts and catamarans riching up the place tho, but still.
When we first get out of the car on the ferry, Todd notices (somehow we'd all walked up to the car that morning and not even noticed) a huge scratchy dent in our rental car. Great. So the first thing we do when we got off the ferry is pull over and follow some rental-car-protocol and ring everyone who needs to be rung, and being really grateful we took out the full insurance. Saved! On to the old temples of Ggantija, which are a casual 5000 years old, the second oldest religious temples still standing. Well, partially standing. Folklore says giants built the place, hence the name. Pretty rad tho, walking around these rooms that are just that old. Crazy times, and they are pretty well preserved, bar the missing roof, alters and everything.
Then for some more beach time, we drove through some pretty classic and picturesque townships and countryside to get to Ramla Bay, a really golden sanded beach, annoyingly covered in stones. Then we had to detour to the police station for the report for the rental car peeps, and watched some real classic looking cops, mustachios and all, casually fagging away outside looking real busy.
Food time! On the way to dinner, I requested a stop at one of them hole in the wall type bakeries, to tr out some pastizzi's. YUM.They're little croissant type things, but filled with either (traditionally) ricotta cheese or this mushy pea mix. I got one of each. Yum, just yum. I could've eaten 17. Marsalforn Bay for dinner, which was another traditional meal, stewed rabbit. Yep, hard not to think of all my pet rabbits, but I guess I've seen sheep pigs and cows alot too. So delicious. Best roast veg, sauce, just everything. I'd highly recommend anyone who goes there to eat it all the time. Watched the sun go down, ooh aah, then back on the ferry.
Hilaaaarious thing happened on the ferry, when we got back to Malta, and the cars on the deck below us had driven off, the front half of our deck started tilting downwards, so we could drive off. The guys beside us obvs didn't care to much about his handbrake, cos he started rolling forward into the car infront. He didn't react till a girl in the back let out this blood curdling scream and he braked just as he hit. He was going about 4kms an hour, so no one was in danger, but it was pretttty funny really. Yeah.
'Lets get gelato' ended up being tip top, then off to bed to get up at a mental hour, get waaaay to much expensive maccas, and fly back to a stunner of a day in London. Trip well spent I say. I'd live there.
